CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Justin Hawthorne
My year started with a busy schedule of guided hikes and trips around Cape Town, coupled with last-minute preparations for a work trip to Utrecht, Netherlands. The business duties saw me depart Cape Town in early January and stay in Amsterdam for a few nights before heading down to Utrecht for 9 days to attend the Vakantiebeurs. More on that trip later.

Exiting the crack along Right Face – Arrow Face Traverse at sunset.
After returning from Europe, I headed up Table Mountain for a late afternoon sunset summit and met Katherine up at the wifi lounge at the Upper Cable Station before we caught the last car down on a magic summers evening.

The Pride of Table Mountain, Disa uniflora (Red Disa).
Guided hiking over the Cape Peninsula had me covering kilometres all over the National Park, in particular, doing Table Mountain routes to view the iconic Red Disa orchids.

The incredible view of Hout Bay.
Silvermine is always part of the schedule for my guided treks, and personal hikes too. The views are enough to keep you coming back for more, and more, and more!

The cloud on the Western Table opened up to afford us this breathtaking scene!
Katherine and I headed up Table Mountain later in the month to do a summit hike with a particular focus, and we ended up strolling the paths in a thick Table Cloth, which opened up at sunset for us to witness a breathtaking scene of clouds streaming over the Twelve Apostles!
